Andalucia – The Healthiest Food Region in the World

If you are looking for a place where you can sample a range of excellent health cuisines then book your Andalucia holiday rentals in one of the coastal villages for it is here that you have the best of both worlds: the freshest seafood and produce from the fields. You will notice that the local dishes are prepared in the simplest form so that the fresh ingredient can be appreciated just that much more. With the use of these fresh ingredients and by replacing the use of butter with olive oil the Mediterranean diet has been recognized as one of the healthiest in the world.

If you bring your family with you to Andalucia holidays you will find that eating out is a treat as the Spanish have a great love for children. This is evident by the informality you find in most restaurants even the higher profile ones. The staff makes over the kids even to the point of preparing something special for them hence the children are able to appreciate food from a young age. It’s common to see young kids with their parents in the late evening hours as it is the Spanish custom to eat late at night and they bring their children with them.

The Spanish cuisine is a melting pot made from many cultures including Roman, Arab, Latin American and of course the Spanish themselves. The Romans brought ham with them and the Arabs introduced a number of spices including saffron, chilli and almonds. When Columbus stopped by South America he procured from the local Indians potatoes, tomatoes, pepper, pineapples, cocoa, corn and beans. When you take all of these ingredients into consideration you will understand how the Spanish cuisine came about. As we said earlier olive oil has replaced butter for the most part in Spanish cooking and was brought here by the Greeks some 3,000 years ago.

As you sample the different cuisines you will notice the Moorish spices which are heavily used and a reminder of the Arabs past occupancy. These spices give a shuttle hint to meat dishes including anything from kebabs to casseroles. It would be impossible to name all the dishes on offer in Spain due to the variations of each dish based on the area. The best suggestion is that you visit one of the little tapas bars where you can sample little titbits of different dishes allowing you to decide which ones you like. If you don’t know what tapas is, it comes from Spanish meaning to cover because in the bars when they gave you a drink they covered the top of the drink with a small plate of food hence to cover and normally the tapas was free.

When you book your Andalucia holiday rentals in one of the villages along the coast don’t expect to find the same cuisine in each town as they add their own variations to the dish which makes it just that much more exciting. Bring the children with you as they will be more that welcome at any of the restaurants and they will learn there is more than just fast food.
